Despite the vast amount of remedy options available for headaches, it is important to understand that there are several kinds of headaches and as such, different treatment methods are required.

Different kinds of Headaches

Cervicogenic Headaches

Start in the forehead, behind the eyes, side of the head, base of the skull or neck. Typically one-sided but may be on both sides.
Cervicogenic headaches are usually caused by a misalignment of the spine in the neck or upper back. This can in turn be caused by bad posture or from previous injuries, such as playground accidents as a child or motor vehicle accidents.

Migraine Headaches

Typically on one side of the head, often with light or sound hypersensitivity, may include vomiting/visual effects. Often worse with monthly cycle.
Migraine headaches are usually caused by misalignment of the top two bones of the neck or the junction between the spine and the skull itself. This is usually due to some trauma in the past such as falling on your head, getting hit in the head or being pulled out during birth by your head.

Other Headaches

Aside from these two main types, headaches can also result from needing reading glasses or from hangover but you can usually tell if they are the cause. Other kinds of headaches are quite rare but chiropractors are trained to recognize and diagnose them all.

It doesn’t matter if the stress is due to a single injury, or an accumulation of everyday incidents. Interference thus begins to form throughout the nervous system through the spinal misalignment. Our job as chiropractors is to find that misalignment and adjust it until the interference is removed.
